UPCOMING EVENTS & CELEBRATIONS

There is always a reason to celebrate or hold a party. I have put together a calendar of upcoming holidays and celebrations to help you plan ahead. Some of them will be more important to you and your family than others, but when you look over the list I am sure you will find a few new ones to add to your family's list of celebrations.

January only has a coupld of celebrations listed but I am sure you can come up with a few more. If you do, let me know what they are and I will add them to our Event Calendar. I am currently working on a calendar you can download and use everyday that will give you some really bizarre and silly reasons to celebrate every day. Follow me on twitter and my blog and you will receive notification when it is ready to download from the freebies section.

Cheers,
Deb

New Years Day

January 22nd
Chinese New Year
(Year of the Dragon)
Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will range from pigs, to ducks, to chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Australia Day is an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia, and is marked by the Order of Australia and Australian of the Year awards, along with an address from the Prime Minister. It is a day when all Australians come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. MORE INFO
